Weather blogger
KBZK’s chief meteorologist Mike Heard has started a blog, where he writes about — surprise — the weather.
I point this out for a few reasons. First of all, Heard is no spring chicken. Blogging and social media weren’t things he learned about in college. He’s found the time, somehow, in his day to learn these new skills and run with them. (He’s also on Twitter.) The point being: if he can learn to use this stuff, anyone can.
Second, Heard’s blog is a great example of a beat blog. He’s going to be focused on the weather, which is a topic that a lot of people find interesting, and he’s going to no doubt be sharing a lot of the interesting stuff that he can’t fit into his nightly broadcast. It’s a glimpse into what he reads about on his beat every day. People love that view into a journalist’s day.
Heard’s blog is something to think about going forward, perhaps as an inspiration (though I wouldn’t go quite so far as to call it that yet; let’s see if he can keep it up.)
By the way, if you’re into RSS feeds, here’s the link directly to Heard’s blog’s RSS feed. If you’re not into RSS, why aren’t you?
