When I opened up the news index page this morning, I found this story listed in our sidebar:
Obviously, some editor’s notes were left at the top of a file that was put onto the server this morning. Thank heavens it was on a high numbered story and didn’t appear on our homepage. Perhaps more importantly, Yahoo news — the Web’s most popular news Web site, which reads and parses our headlines and ledes — didn’t pick up that particular headline.
I think the lesson in diligence is clear. I don’t need to spell it out.
